A little bit of Friday Insight

The post below is from the gorgeous and talented Mr. John Mayer.. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

SIMPLE.

I wish that when I was younger I could have met my current self. We would have sat down at a coffee shop so that I could explain life to young me in terms that only we would understand. It would have saved me a lot of hardship.

You can listen to all the sage wisdom you want, but things only make sense when you can explain them to yourself in your own words. For instance, I’ve been told for three years that Breaking Bad is the best show on television, but only after I watched it was I able to tell myself exactly why everyone was right. Other truths I know now that I can explain them: that I’m not missing any crucial information and that poker really isn’t all that fun; that heartbreaks do fade but they take about a year longer than you expect and by the time they do you really don’t care about it enough to notice; and above all else, life is simpler than you think.

I used to think that life was an intricate series of levers and pulleys, buttons and switches, Mexican standoffs and hostage negotiations. As I get older I realize that life is more Netherlands minimalist than Jackson Pollock. The problems don’t get fewer, and in fact they grow in number, but the way I index them in the database is different. More problems get filed under fewer category headers.

Things are getting simpler, and it’s making life better. Here’s the cheat sheet:

People want to be liked. We all crave attention and affection and we all reject shame. When we get embarrassed we send a thug version of ourselves to the forefront to do our fighting for us. We’re at the top of the food chain just under fear. We don’t want to be in a relationship to hear the words “I love you,” we want to be in a relationship to say the words “I love you.” We want to feel needed, and exceptional and we hate feeling insignificant. We want to ace a hearing test. We are binary creatures; if we’re the plaintiff, we want to win every dollar. If we’re the defendant, we want guard every penny. We want to make more money than last year. We don’t want to get cancer or die in our cars and we want the same for our loved ones. We go out on weekends to try and have sex while trying not to get punched in the face. We drink so we can be ourselves and not mind it so much. We’re desperate to be understood. We want to know someone else has felt it, too. We hate being judged unfairly. We want to make the person we heard wasn’t all that into us change their minds and admit they had us wrong. We want sunny skies with a chance of killer tornadoes, just to keep music sounding good. We take hours upon hours to admit to self consciousness. We don’t know exactly how to pleasure each other. We just want love. In any and every form.

See? It’s simple. :)

Barbie Turns 53..

I will always remember one of the best parts of my childhood. BARBIE. I think I can safely say that along with every other little girl, Barbie was the love of my life. So, you can imagine my excitement when I happened to come across these many articles and photos of every little girl's dream come true.

A Real Life Barbie Malibu Dream House.

March 9th marks Barbie's 53rd birthday, and I figured since it is only a few weeks away I would celebrate by sharing this great fantasy home with you. Designed by Johnathan Adler this home is full of spunk and covered in the famous Barbie pink.

I love the signature Barbie "B" rug below. If you look behind the feathers you can see a mirror on the opposite wall. However, this is NOT a mirror you would come to find in any designer home. I have a close up shot below. Too funny!

Barbie Silhouettes in the high gloss black ornate frames.

I would have to say this living room is my favorite. These tutu skirted chairs with the collage of Barbie and the lace up back similar to a corset remind me of something Betsey Johnson would design.

The focal point of this room is the chandelier made out of Barbie hair. An over the top, out there, piece of decor. I never imagined something like this in my Barbie dream house ;)

Tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Sparkle

I just had to share what I came across on the Phoenix craigslist classifieds today. Check out this Swarovski covered antique antler chandelier.

We all know that anything covered in THIS many rinestones will definatley cost a pretty penny. In this case, I would refer to it as a pretty pretty penny. This antique is advertised on craigslist for $14,900. Or best offer....maybe I could take a swing at it? This piece is truly amazing.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere

Today is National Margarita Day! When I think of margaritas, I think of summer, and when I think of summer, I think of the beach. Maybe it is because I'm longing for tanned skin more than anything, but it has been hard for me to focus on anything other than the sun, sand, and bikinis today.

With that being said, I have been daydreaming of a beautiful beach house. I found some of the most enticing interiors and exteriors from coast to coast and boy does it make me want to be there!

I love the clean, minimalist look of these two images...So calming and serene. Don't overlook the small detail of the nailhead trim on the chairs below. So chic.

Honestly, this beach view gazebo makes me want to quit my job and stay right there forever. The sheer tie top drapes and urn filled with shells create a sense of romanticism and loveliness. Although, I think I might be biased because of the hydrangea flowers.... Images via House Beautiful

Tracey Interiors uses clean design and adds style using antiques.

This kitchen was originally featured in Southern Accents and has since been on just about every blog out there in the blogosphere. But that just justifies what a statement this room makes. It makes you appreciate what an impact coloring through accessories can make. The yellow black and green does not get lost to these shocking red cabinets.

Obsessed with the framed bathing suits in the images below. The retro one piece and children's colorful two pieces really add an original element. LOVE IT!!

So, until summer, I will keep dreaming of these homes to hold me over. xoxo

Beautiful Burlap

Yesterday, the gloomy weather had me in the mood to do something creative. I looked at the local Goodwill store in search of a diamond in the rough and had no luck. So, since I was feeling inspired I ventured over to TJMaxx, a place where you can often find cheap treasures. What did I come across? An awesome burlap pillow. Although it was slightly limp and lacked the luxurious pillow feeling , it got me thinking... I have been very drawn to anything burlap lately. Maybe it is the traditional feel, or the texture? But for some reason I cannot get enough.

It seems as though there are endless possibilities as far as the functionality of this type of fabric. Everything from upholstery to pillows, used for artwork and even crafts. When I decided to look for photos of the usage of burlap there was even more than I expected.

The majority of burlap decor has a romantic feeling to it. White, cream, and browns welcoming the luxurious glow of vintage chandeliers.

However, if it were up to me... I'd mix the burlap texture with bold, bright colors similar to the way that Jolie Marche did in these pillow covers below. Her etsy.com shop features some really great covers at a great price. I think that I just might have to purchase the two below for my room make-over :)

Another example of bold color alongside burlap. I love the orange detail on the curtains. It really makes a statement in this room and gives it a life of it's own. This room is so unique I love the mixture of traditional style with a contemporary splash!

These chairs are amazing. What a statement they make in this otherwise understated room, a great conversation piece.

Burlap can also be used for curtains or even as wall covering. It creates a rustic feeling but still preserves the luxuriousness.

Hope everyone had a great Monday, 4 days until the weekend ;)

If All The Raindrops Were Lemon Drops and Gum Drops

As most of the world knows, Phoenix Arizona doesn't get rain very often. So when the skies are gray and it starts to smell like rain I think our entire city starts to rejoice! Thats exactly what I am doing today. What I am MOST excited about though is to wear my Tory Burch rainboots that I got for Christmas. They are simply amazing.

♥Tory Burch Jaquard Rain Boots ♥

So, in honor of the rare rainy weekend we are supposed to get I wanted to share some great rain gear.

In all honesty, I don't even own an umbrella (haha). BUT if I did...I would need a Pasotti one. They are so unique and festive, I especially love love love the rhinestone one- totally up my alley.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, I am so ready for it this week!

Happy Late Valentines Day!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day. I had one of the happiest days in awhile and felt SO loved. Flowers were delivered to work, a great dinner at the new restaurant Citizens Public House in Scottsdale, and I was spoiled with champaign chocolates and even more goodies afterward. I love my man :)

So in honor of Valentine's Day I DID, in fact, bake something for the occasion and WOW did it turn out better than expected. I made a heart shaped brownie with cream cheese frosting and cut fresh strawberries in to shapes of hearts to top it off. You can find the recipe for the icing here. What a great idea that I happened to stumble across from I am Mommmy.

See pictures of my decadent treat below!

I should have gotten a few before and after pictures so that I could take you through the few easy steps, so I apologize! Next time.

So Cosmopolitan..

I was recently in Las Vegas for work and it was my first time at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and WOW did I fall in love.

The most amazing part is the 3 story mammoth chandelier that overtakes the entire entrance and main lobby of the hotel. Such a captivating and magical ambiance it creates for all hotel guests.

There is also another bar area where the actual bar itself is so amazing. I love the detail and the original design, it doesn't look like everything else in vegas. This place is simply in a league of its own.

Yes, this is the entrance to the parking garage and lobby. Sheek, beautiful, bold.

Take me back, take me back, take me back....

Its a Girl!

My mom and I created this diaper cake for my cousins baby shower that is happening this weekend in Pittsburgh. It is made out of baby diapers. Isn't it cute? It looks so yummy I wish I could take a big bite right now.

We completed our creative contribution about 3 weeks ago and shipped it off so it can be the center of attention (beside my cousin and baby-to-be of course!) I am crossing my fingers that the cross country trek didn't ruin it. Enjoy!

Sorry for the less than perfect picture quality..I took it with my blackberry.

For awhile now I have been wanting to re-do my purple and white bedroom and turn it into more of my personal haven of decoration. I stumbled across this canvass painting by Jessica McChumphy featured on her ETSY.com store "Jessicabstract"

I need this piece!

black & white myspace 3.0 layouts

I have always been drawn to the traditional black and white color combination. My eye is automatically drawn to the duo of colors and I honestly cannot get enough of it lately. Simple, tasetful, and bold.

This Robert Passal image is pure inspiration. The use of color really makes the room feel warm. The vintage accent pieces, metallics, and different textures really give this foyer a great flow.

If I could have this bathroom I would, the stripes are amazing! Accenting a black and white color pallett with a bold color like hot pink, orange, and green creates depth and interest.
