Most Wonderful Time

Most people associate the Holiday season as "the most wonderful time of the year." Not me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Springtime in Arizona chock full of sunny skies and huge puffy clouds. Spring is my source of happiness every year. Most importantly because of all of the super fun Spring Training games.

Cactus League spring training totally takes over the valley during March and this weekend marks the season openers.

Lawn seats, shorts, and of course ball park food has been all I can think of this week. So I decided, of course, an outfit post was necessary. Will you be at any games this weekend?

Needing ZZZ...

I apologize for my lack of post yesterday but it seems all my busy-ness and running around has FINALLY caught up to me. I am feeling a little under the weather today and wish I could just stay in bed all day and rest -unfortunately there is work to be done and things that need checking off of my list, so I am attempting to trudge through. Tonight I will be relaxing after I go to the gym and try to "sweat it out" as everyone says. Below is my go-to when I'm feeling as though I'm running off of fumes alone. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend - Mexico was a blast! xo

It's the weekend, time to relax and enjoy what the next few days have in store. A group of friends and I are heading down to Mexico just to get away from our day to day lives and enjoy a few margaritas on the beautiful beach. I literally cannot wait I am so excited to feel the sand in my toes and really soak up all the sunshine. I'm sure we will also take a trip to town to scoop up some fresh seafood at the fish market... Look forward to pictures next week! What do you have planned this weekend? Anyone else doing a little weekend getaway?

Flower Power

It is no question that bright colors and bold patterns have made there presence in Spring fashion trends. However, recently I have been seeing something a little out of the ordinary (at least since the 80's era). But these fantastic jeans and leggings have been popping up all over the place. Floral prints everywhere! I am a HUGE fan and I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of these babies.

I just love the colors in these particular pants below, don't you? For some reason they just make me Smile! Tomorrow is FRIDAY! YES!

The Skinny Girl Pony

Ok, I admit it. I am completely obsessed with Bethenny Frankel in all her crazy neurotic cuteness - and I love love the 2nd season of her show! I was watching my DVR of the season premier episode tonight and I couldn't help but really notice her signature pony tail. And then it dawned on me how adorable it is and how badly I wish I could putt of the sleek slick back sexy pony, too.

Maybe if I learn to do it correctly? Until then I will drool over these beautiful skinny girl pony look-alikes! xo

Spring is in the Air

Can you even handle these photos from the Spring/Summer 2012 L'Officiel Paris shoot? It just makes me yearn to be surrounded by tanned skin and bright colors and sip an ice cold strawberry margarita. Not even mentioning Luisa Bianchin's lipstick - seriously amazing! Note to self: a must have shade and a spicy color for Spring.

Presidentially Classy

Happy President's Day! Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with today off but honoring the many great men that have led our country got me thinking....

When I think of the President of the United States the first thing that comes to mind is, naturally, their first lady. Excuse me for a moment as I'm biased, hehe. The woman of the White house must posses style, grace and most importantly CLASS. When I think of class, for some reason pearls comes to mind. Maybe it's because my grandmother always wore them, or maybe because they are so elegant themselves? To me, pearls = class.

Pearls aren't as big of a fashion staple as they once were in the days of Jackie O and Ms. Hepburn, but they are still very much around. I have been seeing them mixed up though. Pearls of funky sizes and combining them with other styles of jewelry seems to be it right now. There is nothing better than history re-mixed don't you agree?

Happy Valentine's Day!

This Holiday has been on my mind since I started seeing all kinds of cutesy DIY's on Pinterest right after the new year and it's finally here! May this day bring each of you lots of LOVE and hopefully your Valentine will SPOIL you like you've never been spoiled before. Because that's what loves about, right? ;)

I am so thankful to have a myself a wonderful Valentine - in fact, he's so wonderful that I got up EXTRA early and made him a surprise sweetheart breakfast this morning just to show him how special he is, pink heart apron and all! (I know, I girlfriend ever...ahemmm)

I found most of the Valentine's ambiance at the local dollar store which has great steals and not too shabby merchandise. Breakfast was all about the love...sunny side up heart shaped eggs surrounded by toast, fresh heart shaped strawberries, even our sausages were cut into hearts!

For the balloons I "fringed" crate paper and added sparkle with Valentine's heart garland and then strategically taped them to the bottom of each one. I think overall they turned out pretty awesome.

Busy Bee

Wow! What a whirlwind of a weekend it was. Lets just say it was not an easy transition back into reality today. I got a lot of things checked off my "to-do" list, enjoyed the sunshine, and even had enough time for a little fun (no sleeping in tho, waaaaaah). The cookie party that I talked about last week turned out wonderful and everyone that went had such a great time. Our beautiful creations will be donated to Hospice of the Valley just in time for the Holiday! You can check out some pictures on my Twitter feed - I was updating live.

I hope everyone had a wonderful wonderful weekend, see some of mine below!

Do any of you use Spotify? Because if you don't I highly recommend getting it - it has allowed me to get back into music like the days of Napster and Kazaa when we could download as many songs as we wished without paying a dollar for each one. It's free - and links with your Facebook friends to share playlists, artists, etc. Its amazing!

Anyway, today I found a new love. You know the make you feel good kind? I stumbled upon Charlene Soraia's beautiful voice and haven't been able to stop listening to her since, so I wanted to share with you all. Have a listen- maybe even you'll love her too?
It's FRIDAY, finally - Happy weekend friends!

Shall We?

This weekend my best friend Amy is hosting a Valentine's Day cookie decorating sweet! All of our girlfriends are getting together to sip a few drinks and relish in all our creative glory - and I can hardly wait! So naturally, I've been dreaming of what I want my cookies to look like since I got the e-vite she sent out a few weeks back. I'm thinking I want to do a smooth icing (similar to the cookies below) and possibly even make a few conversation hearts!

Conversation hearts bring me back to Elementary school when you would make a little Valentine's day box and all your classmates would fill it with cards, candy, and treats! It was my favorite time of year. I'm exstatic to attempt to re-create this past time this weekend. See the recipie that Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere followed for her icing below. I will definitely try this with my Grandma Brue's sugar cookie recipe - YUM.

It's almost the weekend - hooray!

conversation heart-1
Royal Icing:

In a bowl of an electric mixer combine:

4 cups sifted powdered sugar

3 TB meringue powder

10 TB of warm water

Beat for 8 minutes on low speed

4. Divide icing into several bowls and add food coloring to each.

5. Transfer frosting to pastry bags or into squirt bottles (my preference).

6. Outline cookies and then fill the inside using the pastry tip as a way to add and spread the frosting as you go.

7. Add sprinkles/edible pearls/sanding sugar before the frosting sets.

Shades of Flamingo

Recently, I have been dreaming up some blog "themes" to keep me organized and to allow my readers certain things to look forward too on a semi regular basis. I think that choosing a "Couleur Code" may be just what Something Brue needs.

I find that I am drawn to certain colors during different periods throughout the year. Winter I was drawn toward grays, browns, and deep orangey-reds. As Spring inches closer I see my preferences shy away from the dull shades and obsess over spring pastels. Right now I am drooling over anything and everything PEACH. It is the epitome of Spring, if you ask me. Fresh tulips, green grass, and the smell of orange blossoms come to mind.

Happy Tuesday Friends :) Hope everyone had an amazing weekend, I know I did!

So Stylish

My post on Wednesday about the Who What Wear offices brought me across an awesome coincidence. Little details in our decor. They are similar, and it makes me feel pretty darn good that I can even remotely compare myself to the editorial director Hillary Kerr. Even if it is for a silly reason.. humor me ;). Happy Friday!

My nightstand, and my S initial candle.

Hillary's bookshelf & her H initial candle. WWW-04-full

and yes, I did have both the book and candle BEFORE I saw this photo...hehe. I actually picked both of these up at my local TJ Maxx store, and if you know me, you know that's my spot!

Hole in One

Every year Scottsdale hosts the annual Phoenix Open golf tournament. It becomes quite the event...and it is known as the loudest golf tournament, so needless to say it is always a great time. Naturally, girls like us like to plan in advance what we are wearing so I put together what my ideal outfit would be for the tournament this weekend. Some pieces are attainable and some just slightly out of reach (hey, its always fun to dream). However, I do think it totally screams golf-chic, don't you? I am thrilled for this eventful weekend coming up! See you on the 16th hole? xo

Short & Sweet

I remember when I was a little girl and learning how to spell the word February. It proved to be one of the harder words I learned that year until my mom taught me this funny little trick.

"Honey, just pretend you are going to spell our last name without the E", she would say.

"Fe-BRU-ary?" I finally wrote

I honestly think of that day every. single. time. I. write. the. word. Silly...? Maybe! But I love remembering things from my childhood. It boggles my mind that something that I learned almost 20 years still comes to mind. Happy February everyone! May this month be filled with candy hearts and lots of hugs for all.
